Gurdwara Domes and Palki Sahib at Shahdara, Delhi

Gurdwara Domes and Palki Sahib at Shahdara, Delhi

At Rana Handicrafts International, we take pride in our craftsmanship and dedication to providing top-quality products for places of spiritual significance. Recently, we were entrusted with the manufacturing of Gurdwara Sahib Domes and Entry Gate (Darshani Deori) Palki Sahib for an under-renovation Gurdwara Sahib in Shahdara, Delhi. The transformation of this pious place has been truly remarkable, thanks to our exceptional products.

Our Gurudwara Sahib Domes and Palki Sahib are meticulously crafted using multilayered First Quality Fiberglass, ensuring they withstand the test of time without the need for major maintenance. For optimal longevity, we recommend painting all our external products (installed in open space) every 7 years.

To guarantee structural integrity and stability, our Gurudwara Sahib domes feature high-quality MS frame structures, allowing them to withstand strong winds and remain firmly grouted to the roof in all weather conditions. The management committee at the Gurdwara Sahib in Shahdra expressed their satisfaction with our work, and we are humbled to have contributed to enhancing their sacred space.

Advantages of our Fiberglass Gurudwara Sahib Domes and Palki Sahib:

  1. Lightweight: Fiberglass is known for its lightweight nature, making transportation, handling, and installation easier compared to heavy materials like concrete or steel. This characteristic can lead to cost savings during construction and transportation.
  2. High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Despite being lightweight, our fiberglass Gurudwara Sahib domes boast a high strength-to-weight ratio, providing unparalleled structural integrity and stability. The meticulous inclusion of high-quality MS Framing allows them to withstand various environmental stresses, including wind, seismic forces, and heavy loads.
  3. Corrosion Resistance: Our Fiberglass Gurdwara Sahib Domes and Palki Sahib are highly resistant to corrosion from environmental factors such as moisture, chemicals, and UV radiation. This makes them suitable for outdoor installations in various climates without significant degradation over time.
  4. Versatility: Fiberglass allows us to mold domes into a wide range of shapes and sizes, offering architects and designers creative freedom. Whether it’s a small gazebo or a large geodesic dome, fiberglass can be customized to meet specific design requirements.
  5. Durability: Our multi-layered and securely installed fiberglass Gurudwara Sahib Domes have an extended lifespan, as they are not prone to rot, rust, or decay. This durability is especially beneficial for structures exposed to harsh environmental conditions.
  6. Low Maintenance: Thanks to their resistance to corrosion and other environmental factors, our fiberglass domes require minimal maintenance over their lifetime. This feature can lead to reduced maintenance costs compared to traditional materials.
  7. Insulation Properties: Fiberglass offers good thermal insulation properties, maintaining a comfortable interior temperature within the dome. This insulation capability contributes to energy efficiency and lower heating or cooling costs.
  8. Non-Conductive: Our Fiberglass Domes and Palki Sahib are non-conductive, ensuring they do not conduct electricity.
  9. Fire Resistance: Our Fiberglass Gurdwara Sahib Domes have inherent fire-resistant properties. While some formulations can meet specific fire safety standards (available upon special request and may vary in cost), our products are generally a safer choice for all international and national Gurdwara Sahibs.
  10. Cost-Effectiveness: Overall, our Fiberglass Gurdwara Sahib Domes and Palki Sahib offer cost-effectiveness due to their low maintenance requirements, ease of installation, and potential for reduced structural support needs.

HISTORY OF BHAI GARJA SINGH JI AND BHAI BOTA SINGH JI

Bhai Garja Singh Ji and Bhai Bota Singh Ji were two prominent Sikh warriors who played a significant role in the history of Punjab during the late 18th century. They are often remembered for their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to Sikh principles.

Garja Singh Ji and Bota Singh Ji were born in the village of Patti in present-day Punjab, India. They came from humble backgrounds and were deeply inspired by the teachings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, who had established the Khalsa Panth—a brotherhood of dedicated Sikh warriors.

During that time, Punjab was under the rule of the Mughal Empire, which imposed numerous oppressive policies on the Sikh community. The Sikh faith, with its emphasis on equality, justice, and resistance against tyranny, inspired Garja Singh Ji and Bota Singh Ji to rise against the oppressive regime.

Garja Singh Ji and Bota Singh Ji became leaders of a band of Sikh warriors and initiated various acts of resistance against the Mughal authorities. They targeted tax collectors and officials who were known for their corruption and exploitation of the common people.

One of their most renowned acts of bravery was the looting of the treasury of Sirhind, a prominent Mughal city. Garja Singh Ji and Bota Singh Ji, along with their fellow warriors, planned a daring raid and successfully infiltrated the city. They managed to seize a substantial amount of wealth and distributed it among the poor and needy, symbolizing their commitment to social justice.

The Mughal authorities were furious and launched a massive manhunt to capture Garja Singh Ji and Bota Singh Ji. Despite the danger, the Sikh warriors continued their resistance activities, challenging the oppressive regime at every turn. Their actions inspired many others to join the cause and stand up against tyranny.

However, their fight for justice and freedom eventually led to their capture. Garja Singh Ji and Bota Singh Ji were arrested and brought before the Mughal authorities, who subjected them to severe torture and humiliation in an attempt to break their spirit.

Even in the face of unimaginable suffering, Garja Singh Ji and Bota Singh Ji remained steadfast in their faith and refused to renounce their Sikh identity. They embraced martyrdom with courage and dignity, becoming symbols of Sikh resistance against oppression.

The sacrifices of Garja Singh Ji and Bota Singh Ji had a profound impact on the Sikh community and their struggle for freedom. They exemplified the principles of Sikhism, including bravery, compassion, and the pursuit of justice. Their legacy continues to inspire generations of Sikhs and serves as a reminder of the importance of standing up against injustice.

Today, Garja Singh Ji and Bota Singh Ji are remembered as iconic figures in Sikh history. Their names are etched in the hearts of Sikhs worldwide, symbolizing the indomitable spirit of the Khalsa and the unwavering commitment to upholding righteousness.

HOW ARE FIBER GLASS SCULPTURES & GURDWARA DOMES MADE

  1. Design and Planning: Begin by developing a concept a sculpture. We sketch out the design and plan the dimensions and proportions. Consider the size, shape, and any intricate details you want to incorporate.
  2. Armature Construction: Build a supporting structure, known as an armature, to provide stability and shape to the sculpture. It can be made from materials such as metal wire, MS Framing or foam. The armature should match the intended shape and size of the final sculpture.
  3. Sculpting the Form: Apply a sculpting material, such as clay or foam, onto the armature to create the basic shape and form of the sculpture. Use sculpting tools to refine the details and achieve the desired texture and surface quality.
  4. Mold Making: Once the sculpting is complete, create a mold of the sculpture. The mold will be used to produce multiple copies of the sculpture in fiberglass. There are different types of molds, such as one-piece molds or multi-piece molds, depending on the complexity of the sculpture.
  5. Mold Preparation: Prepare the mold for the fiberglass application. Apply a mold release agent to ensure the fiberglass doesn’t stick to the mold surface. The mold release can be a wax, silicone spray, or other suitable materials.
    Fabrication of Fiberglass Dome
    Fabrication of Fiberglass Dome
  6. Fiberglass Application: Cut fiberglass mat or cloth into manageable pieces. Mix a batch of fiberglass resin according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Apply a layer of resin onto the mold surface using a brush or roller. Place the fiberglass mat or cloth onto the wet resin and saturate it with more resin, ensuring complete coverage and removal of air bubbles. Repeat this process, adding additional layers for strength and thickness as needed.
  7. Curing: Allow the fiberglass to cure and harden. The curing time will depend on the specific resin used and the environmental conditions. Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer to ensure proper curing.
  8. Demolding and Finishing: Once the fiberglass has cured, carefully remove the sculpture from the mold. Trim any excess fiberglass and sand the surface to achieve a smooth finish. Repair any imperfections or air bubbles with additional layers of resin and fiberglass.
  9. Detailing and Painting: Add any desired details or surface texture to the sculpture using additional sculpting materials or paints. Use appropriate paints or coatings to achieve the desired color and finish. Apply a clear protective coating to enhance durability and weather resistance, if necessary.

1. Regular Cleaning

Cleaning of Gurdwara Sahib Domes

  • Use a large soft cloth or sponge with mild soap and water to clean the surface of Gurdwara Sahib Domes and Palki Sahib.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive materials, or pressure washers as they can damage the finish.
  • Clean Gurdwara Sahib Domes and Palki Sahib periodically to remove dirt, dust, or bird droppings that can deteriorate the protective coating.

2. Protect the Paint and Finish

Doing Lacquer and Paint Job on Gurdwara Dome

  • Fiberglass / Silicon Fiber Domes and Palki Sahibs are polyurethane (PU) painted with UV-resistant lacquer. Please ensure no harsh cleaning agents are used that might strip the coating.
  • We at Rana Handicrafts International recommend applying a fresh coat of Paint and UV-resistant lacquer after every 4-5 years to maintain gloss and protection against sunlight.

3. Inspect for Damage

  • We recommend that our Sikh Brothers should periodically check Gurdwara Sahib Domes and Palki Sahib for any cracks, chips, or signs of wear.
  • Please ask our help (on 9417415404) to get the little damages repaired by us to prevent moisture seepage, which can weaken the structure. Of course we charge for our work.

4. Protect Against Weather

  • We recommend that you please ensure proper drainage around the base of the dome to avoid water pooling, which can cause structural damage over time.
  • We recommend that you avoid allowing heavy snow or debris to accumulate on the dome (particularly in countries like UK, USA, Canada). If the area experiences heavy snowfall, please remove it promptly from the Gurdwara Sahib Dome to reduce weight stress.

5. Repainting and Repairs

  • Over time, the color might fade slightly due to environmental exposure. Repainting with high-quality PU paint is recommended every 4-5 years. You can ask for our services at nominal charges.
  • We at Rana Handicrafts International can also undertake and perform repairs at additional costs.
