Why Rana Handicrafts International is the Global Leader

With a legacy dating back to 1964, Rana Handicrafts International is the first and oldest manufacturer of Silicon Fiber Gurdwara products. Here is why we are trusted by Gurdwaras in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, and Europe:

1. Built for Decades

While traditional wooden Palki Sahibs are prone to termites and warping—especially in the humid or cold climates of Europe—our Silicon Fiber structures are weatherproof. They are tested to last over decades without losing their structural integrity.

2. Maintenance-Free Golden Shine

Our products feature a unique multi-layer PU paint and glass-lacquer finish. Unlike brass or wood, our golden finish does not turn black or require frequent polishing. A simple wipe with a soft cloth is all it takes to maintain the divine glow.

3. Superior Engineering (The Internal Frame)

Unlike many competitors who sell hollow fiber shells, we reinforce every Palki Sahib and Dome with a heavy-duty Internal Steel Frame. This ensures that the Palki is load-bearing, stable, and safe for the installation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

4. Easy Global Assembly

We understand the challenges of international shipping. All our Palki Sahibs are designed in a modular format. They can be easily assembled using simple nuts and bolts. We provide detailed assembly video guides to help the local Sangat set up the Palki within hours.

5. Unbeatable Value

Our Silicon Fiber Palki Sahibs provide a majestic, royal appearance while being nearly 60% more economical than traditional marble or heavy teak wood structures.

We are proud to share the complete journey of our latest international commission: a magnificent 9ft Golden Gumbad and 6ft Khanda Sahib for Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Gurmat Vidhyala in Bristol, UK (England).

Crafted with devotion and precision by Rana Handicrafts International, this structure combines traditional Sikh architecture with modern industrial durability.

Stage 1: The Skeleton of Strength

The process begins with the construction of a heavy-duty internal Mild Steel (MS) frame structure. This frame serves as the "bones" of the dome, providing the necessary reinforcement to withstand high winds and environmental stress.

  • Protection: The frame is first treated with an anti-corrosion primer.

  • Finish: It is then coated in high-quality, water-resistant black paint for maximum longevity.

Stage 2: Molding and Multi-Layer Shell

Once the frame is secure, our artisans develop a multi-layer silicon fiber shell over the structure.

  • The Design: The exterior features an intricate lotus petal pattern at the base, a hallmark of traditional Gumbad design.

  • Refinement: The surface undergoes a "fine-rubbing" process where it is hand-sanded and smoothed to ensure a flawless foundation for the paint.

Stage 3: The Golden Radiance

After the surface is perfectly prepped, the dome enters the painting phase:

  • Base Coat: A specialized primer coat is applied to the fiber shell to ensure paint adhesion.

  • Gold Gilding: Professional metallic gold paint is applied in multiple layers to achieve a brilliant, sun-catching radiance.

  • Weather Shielding: A final protective lacquer coating is added, making the dome water-resistant and durable enough for the UK’s climate.

Stage 4: Quality Check and Scale

Before shipping, Mr. Uday Veer Singh Rana (Proprietor) personally inspects the structure to ensure it meets our ISO 9001:2015 standards. Standing at 9 feet tall, the scale of the Gumbad is truly impressive when viewed alongside the matching 6ft Khanda Sahib.

"We are immensely proud and happy to see another one of our signature golden domes on its way to the UK, specifically for the Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Gurmat Vidhyala in Bristol. While we celebrate this achievement, we sincerely regret the unforeseen delay in shipping this time. The ongoing conflict between Iran and the USA has caused significant disruptions in raw material availability and global shipping rates, which were beyond our control. However, as the saying goes, 'all is well that ends well,' and the Gumbad is now safely en route. Also, To ensure these structures remain a radiant symbol of our faith for decades to come, I strongly recommend that all our Sikh brothers and Prabandhak Committees arrange to have their domes repainted every 3 years. Regular maintenance and a fresh coat of protective paint are essential to prolonging the life span of the fiber and keeping the golden glow of the Gumbad as brilliant as the day it was installed." - Uday Veer Singh Rana (Prop.)

Our engineering meets spiritual devotion through our world-renowned Silicon Fiber Gurdwara Domes. This digital showcase highlights our three most popular Gumbad models: "The 9ft, 12ft, and 14ft diameters" which have become the preferred choice for Sikh communities across the USA, England, Canada, Australia, and South Africa. These specific designs are celebrated for their "Grandeur Reimagined," combining a robust internal MS/Stainless Steel frame with a lightweight, weather-resistant silicon outer shell that can withstand diverse global climates. Whether it is the vibrant gold leafing or the polished white finish, these domes provide a divine splendor that defines the skyline of international Gurdwaras. We invite you to explore our extensive portfolio of successfully completed global projects at https://www.ranahandicrafts.com/domes-gumbad/. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Gemini AI for the digital refinement of these images, allowing us to showcase the structural layers and intricate Kalash details with a level of clarity that helps our international committees make confident, informed decisions for their holy spaces.

"At Rana Handicrafts, we create high-quality Gurdwara products through a careful process of expert design, casting, and hand-finishing by trained artists. Our Palki Sahibs and Domes are superior because we never skip essential engineering. Unlike competitors who sell cheap, hollow fiber shells, we reinforce every dome with a strong MS or SS internal frame. Without this metal skeleton, domes cannot handle the physics of heat, wind, or snow, leading to cracks and costly repairs. While our quality comes at a higher price, we refuse to compromise on the safety and durability our Sikh brothers deserve." - Uday Veer Singh Rana (Prop.)

Rana Handicrafts International is proud to announce the successful supply and installation of a magnificent new Gurdwara Sahib Gumbad (Dome) in Penang, Malaysia. This project marks another milestone in our mission to provide the global Sikh Sangat with architectural elements that reflect the glory and sanctity of the Gurdwara Sahib.

Engineering Excellence Meets Devotion

This stunning golden dome is a masterpiece of modern engineering and traditional aesthetics. To ensure it stands the test of time and weather, it was engineered with the highest quality materials:

  • Premium Material: Built using first-quality, multi-layered silicon fiber.

  • Structural Integrity: Reinforced with a heavy-duty MS (Mild Steel) frame structure.

  • Substantial Presence: The dome carries an approximate weight of over 1,000kg, ensuring stability and durability.

The installation process in Penang was a sight to behold, as the massive structure was carefully hoisted into place, instantly transforming the skyline of the local Gurdwara Sahib with its radiant golden finish.

Why Rana Handicrafts Domes are the Preferred Choice Worldwide

As the foremost supplier of high-quality, weather-resistant domes globally, Rana Handicrafts International understands the unique requirements of religious architecture. Our domes are specifically designed to withstand varied climates—from the humid tropical weather of Malaysia to the harsh winters of North America.

Built to Last: Our silicon fiber domes are incredibly resilient. To maintain the "newly installed" brilliance and luster of the gold finish, we recommend that our Sikh brothers and management committees schedule a professional repainting only once every 4 to 5 years. Outside of this simple maintenance, these domes are designed for decades of service.

Witness the Craftsmanship

Curious about how a 1,000kg masterpiece is created? We believe in transparency and showcasing the skill of our artisans. New Project: 9ft Golden Dome of Faith at a Gurdwara in Village Todarpur

A 16ft tall golden silicon fiber dome with a 9ft diameter installed on the roof of Gurdwara Sahib in Village Todarpur, Hoshiarpur, by Rana Handicrafts International.
A 15ft tall golden silicon fiber dome with a 9ft diameter installed on the roof of Gurdwara Sahib in Village Todarpur, Hoshiarpur, by Rana Handicrafts International.

Rana Handicrafts International continues its mission to provide world-class architectural elements to religious institutions. Our latest project took us to Village Todarpur in the Hoshiarpur District of Punjab, where we successfully installed a stunning Golden Gumbad.

Technical Excellence The dome stands 15 feet tall with a 9 feet diameter. To ensure longevity against the harsh Punjab weather, we used multilayered high-quality silicon fiber. The structure is reinforced with a Mild Steel (MS) frame, providing the perfect balance of lightweight design and structural strength.

Why Choose Our Silicon Fiber Domes?

  • Weatherproof: Resistant to rain, heat, and UV rays.

  • Lightweight: Reduces the load on the building structure compared to concrete.

  • Low Maintenance: The golden finish stays vibrant for years if painted every 4-5 years and cleaning is required every month.

We are honored to contribute to the beauty of the Gurdwara Sahib in Todarpur.

Rana Handicrafts International is proud to announce the successful completion and installation of a magnificent 15-foot Golden Gumbad (Dome) at Gurdwara Sahib, Village Todarpur, located in the Hoshiarpur District of Punjab. This project stands as a testament to our commitment to blending traditional Sikh architectural aesthetics with cutting-edge material science.

Project Overview & Architectural Brilliance

The Gurdwara Sahib in Todarpur now features a centerpiece that commands attention from miles away. This isn't just an installation; it is a structural upgrade that enhances the spiritual skyline of the village.

  • Dimensions: Standing at a towering 15 feet in height with a wide 9-foot diameter base, the dome provides a perfect, symmetrical silhouette to the Gurdwara structure.

  • Design Philosophy: The dome features the classic "Phul" (petal) design at the base, transitioning into a smooth, elegant curve that leads to a multi-tiered Kalash and Khanda finial, symbolizing chardi kala (eternal optimism).

Engineering & Technical Excellence

At Rana Handicrafts, we believe that beauty must be backed by strength. The Todarpur project utilized our signature Multilayered High-Quality Silicon Fiber technology.

  1. Reinforced MS Frame Structure: Internally, the dome is supported by a heavy-duty Mild Steel (MS) framework. This skeleton ensures the dome remains aerodynamically stable against high wind pressures common during Punjab’s monsoon and storm seasons.

  2. Multilayered Silicon Fiber Skin: The outer shell is crafted from multiple layers of premium silicon fiber. Unlike traditional Gumbads made of concrete or heavy metals, our fiber technology offers:

    • Zero Rust Risk: Being non-metallic on the outside, it is immune to corrosion.

    • Thermal Insulation: It does not absorb heat like metal or concrete, keeping the structure below cooler.

  3. The Golden Finish: We use a specialized, high-grade golden pigment that is UV-resistant. This ensures that the "Sone-marga" (gold-like) glow does not fade or peel under the intense Indian sun.

Why Communities Choose Rana Handicrafts Domes?

  • Lightweight Engineering: At 15 feet, a concrete dome would weigh several tons, requiring massive pillars. Our silicon fiber dome significantly reduces the dead load on the building's foundation, ensuring the long-term safety of the Gurdwara structure.

  • Weatherproof & Seamless: The multilayered finish is 100% waterproof. It prevents seepage—a common issue with brick-and-mortar domes—protecting the interior Palki Sahib and Darbar Hall.

  • Rapid Installation: As seen in our project photos, the use of professional crane services allows us to install these massive structures with precision and speed, minimizing disruption to the Sangat.

  • Low Maintenance: Just paint it after every 4-5 years and clean it regularly, it's good enough maintenance.

A Legacy of Service

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Prabandhak Committee and the Sangat of Village Todarpur (Hoshiarpur) for trusting us with this sewa. It is our honor to contribute to the grandeur of such a sacred space.

At Rana Handicrafts International, we are honored to announce the successful completion of a truly magnificent project: the creation of a massive and beautiful Palki Sahib. This specialized Palki Sahib design was created specifically for the Diwan Hall at the Sikh Satsang of Indianapolis in the USA.

Our team drew deep inspiration from the world-famous and iconic Palki Sahib design found at Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib in Ludhiana to ensure a regal and sacred appearance. Known by its unique model name, Code: PK12, this masterpiece is now fully manufactured and prepared for its journey to its new home.

Even though the current global situation and international conflicts have created major challenges for the shipping industry, we are doing everything possible to manage the delivery. We are working tirelessly to ensure this sacred consignment reaches our clients in Indianapolis on time and in perfect condition.

This project was a labor of love that took four months of dedicated craftsmanship to complete. Below, we share the detailed, step-by-step journey of how our artists transformed a simple vision into this breathtaking Palki Sahib.

The Ultimate 12×12 Palki Sahib for Your Gurudwara | Silicon Fiber Art

Phase 1: Planning and Artistic Design

  • Step 1 & 2: Our artists began with detailed hand-drawn plans. The final approved design is a grand structure measuring 12ft wide, 12ft deep, and 14ft high.

  • Step 3: These drawings were given to master wood carvers who hand-carved the patterns onto MDF boards to create the very first molds.

Phase 2: Molding and Casting

  • Step 4 & 5: We created high-quality silicon fiber molds. From these, we cast 4 massive pillars, 8 top sections (for both the inside and outside), and 4 inner arches (mehrabs).

  • Step 6: To ensure the structure is strong and looks thick, we built a 2-layer Mild Steel (MS) frame. This frame holds the inner and outer silicon fiber shells together.

Phase 3: Refinement and Finishing

  • Step 7 & 8: Every section was hand-rubbed to make the surface perfectly smooth. We applied a PU primer and used specialized putty to fill any tiny pinholes, ensuring a flawless base.

  • Step 9: Once smooth, we sprayed the first coat of beautiful golden paint on every piece.

Phase 4: Assembly and Quality Testing

  • Step 10 & 11: After drying under the sun, we performed a full test assembly. We used a crane to lift the heavy top section onto the pillars to check the structural strength and bolting.

  • Step 12: Our team, including Uday Veer Singh Rana, took a moment to celebrate this achievement with a group photo in front of the finished structure.

Phase 5: Final Coating and Shipping

  • Step 13 & 14: The Palki Sahib was disassembled so we could apply a perfect second coat of golden paint, fixing any small scratches from the assembly process.

  • Step 15: Finally, a clear coat of lacquer was sprayed to give it a lasting shine and protection.

  • Step 16: Each section is now being carefully packaged individually to be loaded into a container for its long journey to Indianapolis.

At Rana Handicrafts International, we take immense pride in blending traditional Sikh architectural aesthetics with modern, durable materials. Our latest milestone project took us to Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Kirarod Afganan Village, Narnaul (Mahendragarh, Haryana), where we transformed the skyline of the sacred structure with our signature golden domes.

The Vision: A Golden Crown for Kirarod Afganan

The management committee of Singh Sabha Gurdwara sought a solution that offered both majestic beauty and long-lasting durability. Led by our Proprietor, Uday Veer Singh, our team designed a comprehensive dome package that includes:

  • 1 x 12ft Central Golden Dome (The Masterpiece)

  • Multiple 2ft Rooftop Domes

  • 1ft Decorative Domes for the Entrance Gates

Phase 1: The Art of Making (Behind the Scenes)

Every masterpiece begins in our specialized workshop. For this project, the 12ft central dome required precision engineering.

Key Technical Highlights:

  1. Reinforcement: Internal steel framing for maximum structural integrity.

  2. Surface Finish: Multiple layers of fiberglass putty for a glass-smooth finish.

  3. The Golden Glow: Weather-proof, UV-resistant golden metallic paint finished with a high-gloss protective lacquer.

Phase 2: The Installation Journey (A Photo Gallery)

Installation is where the vision comes to life. Transporting a 12ft dome and hoisting it onto a Gurdwara rooftop requires expert handling and "Seva" (selfless service) spirit.

In the gallery below, you can follow the journey from the arrival of the domes at Kirarod Afganan Village to the final placement of the "Top Flower" (Finial) on the 12ft central gumbad.

Installed a 7ft Dome at a Gurdwara Sahib in SBP Housing Park in Dera Bassi (Punjab)
Installed a 7ft Dome at a Gurdwara Sahib in SBP Housing Park in Dera Bassi (Punjab)

Rana Handicrafts International finished building and installing a beautiful 7-foot Gurdwara Dome (called a Gumbad). This dome is made from strong, long-lasting Silicon Fiber (also known as FRP) reinforced with MS Frame Structure, proving that they can combine great design with tough materials.

Step 1: Building the Strong Base

Making a dome this size requires precise work, starting with the structure:

  • Extra Strength: For domes bigger than 4 feet, like this one, they build a strong MS (Mild Steel) frame inside the fiber shell. This makes sure the dome can handle bad weather and lasts a very long time.

  • Smooth Finish: The builders carefully use fiberglass layers and a special fiberglass putty to fill any small holes and make the surface perfectly smooth.

Step 2: The Golden Look

After the shell is complete, it's time for the brilliant golden finish:

  • Prep Work: The dome is primed first.

  • Gold Paint: They use special, weather-proof golden paint that gives the dome its beautiful, shiny look.

  • Protection: The final step is adding a clear lacquer spray over the gold. This protective layer keeps the golden color bright and safe from the sun and rain for many years.

Step 3: The Big Lift and Installation

Moving and installing the finished dome was a big job:

  • Safety First: The dome was tightly wrapped in protective gold foil and orange tape to keep the golden finish safe during the move.

  • Team Effort: Even though the dome is strong, the fiber material makes it light enough for a team of workers to lift and carefully move it into place on the rooftop.

Bespoke 9ft Gumbad for UK (Gilwell Park Sikh Sanctuary)

Bespoke 9ft Gumbad for UK (Gilwell Park Sikh Sanctuary)

Rana Handicrafts International is proud to announce the successful completion and imminent shipment of a beautiful, custom-manufactured high quality MS Frame Structure Reinforced 9-foot Gurdwaraq Sahib Gumbad (Gurdwara Dome) destined for the new Sikh Sanctuary at Gilwell Park, the UK Headquarters for Scouting.

The dome, a stunning piece of traditional craftsmanship, is scheduled to depart for the United Kingdom this week, marking a significant milestone in the establishment of this important new spiritual space.

Meeting the Unique Design Challenge

The Sikh Sanctuary at Gilwell Park is set to be a key addition to the park’s renowned Faith Walk, which is part of the Gilwell Heritage Trail celebrating inclusivity and commitment to different faiths. The Sanctuary, planned by the 13th Southall (Sikh) Scout volunteers, is designed as a welcoming building with four open doors, offering a space for reflection and featuring appropriate quotes from Gurbani.

The objective of the project is to establish a Sikh presence at the UK Headquarters for Scouting, providing significant exposure to Sikhism and raising awareness of the Sikh community for the countless Scouts, leaders, and international visitors to the park throughout the year.

This ambitious project came with a unique technical requirement: the dome needed to be crafted with a very specific and constrained height to adhere to the Sanctuary’s architectural plans and site regulations.

Rana Handicrafts International was selected to undertake this critical task precisely due to our specialized expertise in manufacturing domes that meet demanding dimensional constraints without compromising on aesthetic quality. The successful fabrication of this majestic 9ft dome, while meticulously adhering to the strict height limitations, is a testament to the precision, skill, and engineering capabilities of our dedicated artisans.

The finished gumbad embodies the beauty and reverence fitting for the new Sikh Sanctuary. We look forward with great anticipation to its installation.

How Home Palki Sahibs Are Made: Fiberglass (FRP) Manufacturing Process

How Home Palki Sahibs Are Made: Fiberglass (FRP) Manufacturing Process
Beautiful Designs of Home Palki Sahib and Pida Sahib
Beautiful Designs of Home Palki Sahib and Pida Sahib

As manufacturers dedicated to preserving the sanctity and beauty of Sikh tradition, we understand the deep reverence felt for Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. For many Sikh families, housing the Holy Scripture in a home Palki Sahib is a central act of devotion. This commitment requires a dwelling that is both beautiful and durable.

Here we are sharing our detailed manufacturing secrets because we believe transparency is key. People interested in acquiring a high-quality, designer Palki Sahib or Gurdwara Sahib Dome often want to know exactly how the best manufacturers achieve their superior results. Our process, often utilizing advanced materials like Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP), fiberglass, or silicone in mold-making, combines traditional artistry with modern engineering.

Here is the step-by-step journey of how a beautiful home Palki Sahib is made from scratch.

Stage 1: Design and Physical Modeling

The creation of a designer Palki Sahib begins not with material, but with an inspired vision.

  • Concept Drawing: Our designers first translate their creative vision into a simple 2D sketch. This initial drawing outlines the shape, size, and ornamental details.

  • 3D Blueprint: The 2D sketch is then refined and developed into a rough 3D format using design software. This helps visualize the final proportions and complex curves.

  • The Clay Model (The 'Plug'): This is where artistry meets reality. The 3D blueprint is used to guide the creation of a physical, full-scale clay model of the Palki Sahib. This clay model, or 'plug', represents the finished product exactly as it should look.

Stage 2: Mold Fabrication (The Reusable Template of Palki Sahib Components)

The mold is arguably the most crucial tool, as it ensures that every single Palki Sahib piece produced is identical and flawless. Since the Palki Sahib has multiple distinct parts (dome, pillars, peeda sahib, kalash, etc.), a separate mold is created for each component.

  • Prepare the Clay or Wooden Plug: The original clay model is painstakingly sanded and polished to achieve a perfect, high-luster finish. This is vital, as any tiny flaw on the plug will transfer to the final product.

  • Apply Mold Release: A special release powder and wax is applied to the polished clay surface. This acts as a protective layer, ensuring the new fiberglass mold doesn't stick to the clay plug when they cure together.

  • Build the Mold: Multiple layers—including tooling gel coat, resin, and durable fiberglass cloth—are carefully applied over the prepared clay plug. These layers cure and harden to create a durable, mirror-image (female) mold of the Palki Sahib component.

  • Separate the Mold: Once cured, the finished fiberglass mold is meticulously separated from the original clay plug. It is then cleaned and prepped, ready to be used repeatedly for mass production.

Stage 3: Product Fabrication (Creating the Parts)

With the reusable molds ready, the actual components of the Palki Sahib are now created, typically using the hand lay-up method for custom, high-quality parts.

  • Prepare the Mold: The inside surface of the mold is prepped again with a release agent to ensure the finished part can be easily removed.

  • Apply Gel Coat: A high-quality, pigmented gel coat is sprayed into the mold first. This layer cures to become the smooth, exterior, cosmetic surface that the customer will see—the foundational colour of the Palki Sahib.

  • Lay-up the Fiberglass (FRP): Once the gel coat is cured, layers of strong fiberglass (FRP) mat are manually placed inside the mold (for the Dome, Pillars, Peeda Sahib, etc.).

  • Wet-out the Resin: A catalyzed resin is applied to the FRP layers using brushes and rollers. The technician saturates the fibers, carefully working to eliminate all trapped air bubbles. This ensures maximum strength and integrity.

  • Cure and De-mold: The layered resin and fiberglass are left to fully cure and harden. Once rock-solid, the hardened components are carefully removed (de-molded) from their respective molds.

Stage 4: Finishing and Painting (The Polished Look)

This final stage transforms the raw components into a beautiful, ready-to-use Palki Sahib with a flawless, glass-like finish.

  1. Trimming and Shaping: All components undergo initial trimming. Excess FRP or rough material (flanges) is removed using tools like snips, files, and grinders.

  2. Initial Sanding: Edges are smoothed and shaped with coarse sandpaper (like 80–100 grit).

  3. Filling and Preparation: Any surface irregularities are addressed. Fiberglass putty and resin are used to fill any pinholes (tiny air bubbles) or low spots, ensuring a perfectly smooth surface. The repaired areas are then sanded flush with the surrounding surface.

  4. Cleaning and Priming: The entire surface is thoroughly cleaned with a wax/grease remover (like acetone) to ensure primer adhesion. Then, a high-quality polyester primer is coated onto all components.

  5. Final Sanding and Painting: The primer layer is wet-sanded using progressively finer-grit paper (e.g., 400 to 1000 grit) until the surface is exceptionally smooth. The final golden, white, or ivory-coloured paint is then expertly spray-painted onto the components.

  6. Clear Coat and Final Cure: Once the paint is dry, a high-quality clear coat lacquer is sprayed on top for protection and a deep gloss. This clear coat is then dried, often slowly in the sunshine, to fully cure.
